Pennan Bay is on the northern coastline of Aberdeenshire. Depending on the weather of any given visit, Pennan can seem either idyllic or, in stormier conditions, not quite so welcoming! It is not uncommon for villagers to hang out their washing along the seafront. Pennan is well known for this but perhaps better known for its role in the much loved 1983 film, Local Hero, which starred Burt Lancaster, and was accompanied by music from Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits fame.
