Pennan Harbour played a key role in the film Local Hero and attracts a steady stream of visitors as a result. Due to past storms, this is in fact the third harbour that has been constructed here, having been built in 1903 and improved in 1909 and 1981, the latter date being just 2 years before the film. The harbour is situated at the eastern end of the village and nowadays mostly serves leisure craft with fishing having become a dwindling trade within the community. Nearby is a badly worn plaque commemorating the making of the film.
