This small building was the residence of James Crichton (1560-1585), commonly known as “The Admirable”. James was the son of the second most powerful man in Scotland, the Lord Advocate Robert Crichton. James attended the University of St Andrews at the remarkable age of 10, graduating at age 14. A unique character, James moved to Paris at age 17, startling academics with his vast knowledge of every subject. Murdered by a student of his in Italy, James Crichton was an extraordinary graduate of this university town. The house, currently used as a café, is marked with a blue plaque on the wall.
