Ben Lawers is Perthshire’s highest mountain at 1,214m (3,980 ft) with views from the Atlantic to the North Sea. In the Scottish National Trust’s care are 3,374 hectares of the southern slopes of the Lawers range and 1,348 hectares of the Tarmachan range, noted for a rich variety of mountain plants. Birds include raven, ring-ouzel, red grouse, ptarmigan, dipper and curlew. There is also a nature trail, now fenced to exclude sheep to allow the restoration of the vegetation.
