Not far away, Comrie is a charming village where - by UK standards, at least - earth tremors are often felt. It has been nicknamed the ’Shakey Toun’ in times gone by and it is here that the world’s very first seismometers were set up. The tiny Earthquake House, built on solid rock in 1874, contains replicas of the recording equipment used. After a prolonged period without use, Earthquake House was restored in 1988 and furnished with modern equipment supplied by the British Geological Survey.
