Loch Leven Castle sits on an island on the western margin of Loch Leven. Interestingly, it is thought that the island was much smaller than its current size, possibly such that the waters of the loch lapped the castle walls. During its history it has been visited by Robert the Bruce and seen the imprisonment of Mary Queen of Scots. Sadly the castle fell into a state of disrepair when Sir William Bruce abandoned it in 1690 in favour of Kinross House on the mainland.
