Montrose airfield was the first operational airfield in Britain, setup by No. 2 Squadron, RFC in 1913. The centre is situated by the old airfield and hangars and housed in the original headquarters building. Exhibits include memorabilia and photographs relevant to the operation of the airfield in both world wars when it was extensively used for training pilots. A large number of models and aircraft artefacts are on display. Outside exhibits include a Seahawk & a Vampire T11 under reconstruction together with historical vehicles such as Queen Mary aircraft transporter. Always present but rarely visible is the airfield ghost. Open 1 April to 30 September. Mon - Sat 10 - 4, Sunday 12 - 4 all year or by arrangement.
