St. Andrews is famous for being the home of golf, and the Old Course has long claimed its deserved title as the number 1 links course in the world. Golf has been played here since 1400, and the Old Course is one of six courses attracting golfers to the area. Annually, more than 200,000 rounds of golf are played here. The Old Course plays host to various professional golfing events, such as the Dunhill Links Championship, and the Walker Cup. The famous Swilcan Bridge is located near the 18th hole, and is a popular sight for golfers to stand for a memorable photograph after completing the course.
