Dating from around 1200, St Andrews Castle, former residence of the bishops and archbishops of St Andrews, lies on the coast of the town overlooking the sea. Site of many historical events including the martyrdom of George Wishart and the siege of 1546, St Andrews Castle and Visitor Centre is an interesting see for all the family. Features a ‘bottle dungeon’, siege mine and counter-mine, as well as a visitors shop.
