Located in the heart of Stirling’s Old Town, the Grade A listed Tolbooth had a long and intriguing past before being opened as a £5.5m arts centre in 2002. The current Tolbooth was built in 1705 and has served as a town hall, court and prison and parliament during the reign of James VI. During the recent renovation, builders came across a hidden staircase which was apparently used by jurors to ascend directly to the courtroom. Views from the top of the Tolbooth over Stirling town are impressive.
