The Meffan was built in 1898 as a bequest from the daughter of Provost Meffan. Originally the library and museum of the town, the building is now a contemporary art space. The much-loved part of the community hosts a variety of exhibitions in its two galleries, changing them each month. Most shows are focussed on contemporary art, although there are sometimes more historical styles examined.
