Dundee has a fine modern Botanic Garden which caters well for visitors: its gentle south facing slopes are just above the banks of the River Tay. Founded in 1971, it can boast fine collections of conifers and broad-based leaved trees, good shrubs, tropical and temperate glasshouses, a water garden and a herb garden. There is a whole series of native plant communities from montane to coastal habitats. These include a collection of Sorbus species native to Britain.
