From the carriages of the Bala Lake Railway, passengers have superb views of Llyn Tegid and its wildlife. The railway is built on part of a line that originally ran from Ruabon to Barmouth. After its closure, a private company reopened the Bala Lake section in 1976 as a narrow gauge line. The nine mile return journey takes about one hour if starting at Llanuwchllyn, where there is a car park and cafe. Passengers can break their journey if they wish. Good walks and bird watching may be enjoyed from the halt at Llangower.
