Cwm Maethlon is a peaceful, green valley in the hills north of Aberdyfi and since Victorian times it has been known as Happy Valley. Through it runs a lane that was a turnpike road linking Machynlleth in the Dyfi Valley with Tywyn on the Cambrian coast. A car park beside the lane is a good starting point for walks to Llyn Barfog and the Tarren mountains. The Panorama Walk on the ridge above Aberdyfi offers superb views of Cwm Maethlon.
