Llyn Barfog (Bearded Lake) lies in hilly countryside above the River Dyfi. This beautiful, isolated, small lake is covered with yellow water lilies in the summer months. You can reach it by following a footpath from a car park in Cwm Maethlon (Happy Valley). It is said that, long ago, fairies tended their cattle beside the lake. A farmer caught one of the cows and she gave him many calves, but when he tried to slaughter her she vanished with her offspring into the lake, and was never seen again.
