Enclosed by precipitous cliffs on three sides, Llyn Cau huddles below Craig Cau, one of the peaks of the Cader Idris range. An impressive example of a deep corrie lake, it lies at over 1500 feet above sea level and is part of the Cadair Idris Nature Reserve, known for its artic and alpine plants. Walkers following the steep Minffordd path stop off to admire its setting on their trek to Penygadair, the highest summit of Cadair Idris.
