The mine dates from the 18th and 19th centuries and has been fully restored, making it one of the few remaining water-powered silver-lead mines of its type in the country. The seven-acre site is filled with working machinery. The underground tour allows visitors the chance to see some of the dark and dangerous conditions in which miners used to have to work everyday. There is also a working miner’s lift on display.
