Housed in a former warehouse beside the Montgomery Canal, the Powysland Museum houses fascinating displays about the local history and archaeology. It was founded in the mid 19th century by members of the Powysland Club who put their own collections together to form a museum. In the 1970s the museum was taken over by Powys County Council, and in 1990 it moved to the present location. Displays cover life in Montgomeryshire from the prehistoric era to recent times. There are exhibitions about farming, social history and the canals and railways.
