The Royal House is one of three medieval houses still standing in Machynlleth. Part of it was altered in the 19th Century to make a shop. It is said that David Cam was imprisoned here from 1404 to 1412 for the attempted assassination of Owain Glyndwr. Gam later fought at the Battle of Agincourt. According to tradition, the name Royal House refers to when Charles 1 stayed here in 1643. It is now the Tourist Information Centre.
