St Nicholas Church was built in the 13th Century and retains its original tower, which was used as a place of refuge during the Civil War; there are signs of musket shots on the church’s exterior. The building’s high, pitched roof dates to the 19th Century with the spire, and timber belfry added in 1815 and the clock in 1887. A new South aisle was built in 1751 and in 1812 a new nave. The aisles are divided from the nave by six bays above which is timber arcading.
