A Barmouth rector founded this hut in 1890 as a place for sailors to meet friends or quietly read. Here, local families could trace the voyages of their seafaring menfolk by consulting the Lloyd`s List or Shipping Gazette. The building was restored in 1984, and the reading room is much as it was in Victorian times. Open to visitors, the building houses an intriguing collection of models, pictures, photos, documents and artefacts about Barmouth`s maritime history.
