Built in 1873 at a cost of £8000, this was the first concrete built lighthouse in the British Isles. Situated at La Corbiere (meaning 'gathering place of the crow’) and standing 135ft above sea level it was originally lit by paraffin oil. During the war the light was only turned on when Germans’ wanted to guide their own ships. Relit on 19th May 1945, the light can now be seen 18 miles away and the lighthouse is one of the first landmarks to be sighted when travelling from Guernsey.
