Grosnez, Les Landes, St. Ouen, Jersey JE3 2AB - Channel Islands, UK
This 14th Century ruined castle stands proudly on the cliffs at Les Landes. Possibly named from the old Norse ‘grar nes’, meaning grey headland, the castle is protected on three sides by cliffs. Once boasting a drawbridge, portcullis and two strong towers the castle was taken by the French and later demolished, many of the locals using the stone on their own land. A naval signal station was positioned on the site in 1806 to pass messages to nearby Guernsey. Visit the site in the evening for breathtaking sunsets.
