There has been an established packhorse route running through Barrow-in-Furness since the Middle Ages, and Bow Bridge was constructed to help aid the effective flow of traffic across Mill Beck to the nearby Furness Abbey. The 15th Century structure has hardly changed since its inception and is now protected and preserved by English Heritage.
