Burton-in Kendal is to be found just off the M6 between Junctions 35 and 36. It was actually in existence before the Domesday Book was written. The main street in the town is lined with Georgian houses and a limestone market cross, built in the 18th century, can also be seen. There was a thriving corn market in Burton-in Kendal, held as early as 1661, until the introduction of the railroad.
