Lank Rigg has a height of 541 m (1,775 ft) - it is a Wainright with gentle grassy slopes and can be climbed from various points along Coldfell Road. The summit bears various remains from ancient habitation and to mark the completion of his Pictorial Guide to the Lakeland Fells, Alfred Wainwright buried a two-shilling piece under one of the stones at the summit, making mention of this in the last volume so that the first reader who arrived on the fell could collect the prize. Carrying on this tradition visitors to the summit may still occasionally find coins hidden amoungst the stones by other generous walkers in memory of Wainwright's act.
