RAF Millom opened in January 1941, and was an important player in the war effort. The museum project came about much later, in 1992, and took a great deal of hard work on the part of servicemen and volunteers. The aim of the museum is to record and research the aviation history of the area. On display are a great many fine pieces, including several full sized aircraft, records of the air corps and many artefacts relating to the Second World War.
