Red Pike has a height of 826m (2,709 ft) and is a Wainright most often climbed as part of the Mosedale Horseshoe along with Steeple and Scoat Fell. Atop the summit walkers will find an armchair shaped wind shelter built onto a rock outcrop a few yards off the path, known simply as 'The Chair' and that had at one time gave its name to the fell. The summit offers fine views southward, particularly of the Scafells, although the north is largely obstructed by Scoat Fell and Pillar. Ascents can be started at Wasdale Head, but a long climb up scree is involved. An easier route can be found near Overbeck Bridge on the Wastwater road where walkers can find a route up Low Tarn, and then ascend the mountain's western slopes.
