This quaint little church has been the centre of the local community for hundreds of years. The tower at the West of the church dates back to the 12th century and is the oldest part of the building; much of it had to be repaired and restored in 1844. Although re-dedicated to St James during the 1600s the church’s saint was originally Saint Helen. It is located at the northern end of the village of Burton-in-Kendal, where the brilliant six bells of the church are often heard ringing.
