Although the church of St. Oswald is most commonly visited to see the Wordsworth family tomb in the churchyard, it is a beautiful building on its own merit. Each year on St. Oswald’s day, the church holds a traditional rush-bearing ceremony, a custom dating back to when the church floor consisted of earth covered in rushes. Just next door to the church is the world-renowned Grasmere Gingerbread Shop, which is well-worth a visit.
