Over the years, Wetherlam has seen as much activity below ground as above; the mountain is pitted with old mine tunnels, quarries and levels. This industrial archaeology adds a good deal of interest to any walk, although a careful watch on children or dogs is advisable if you plan to stray from the main footpaths. The summit offers good views of all the Coniston fells as well as the fields of Langdale steeply below. On a clear day, the Pennines can also be clearly seen, far away to the east.
