Balmaclellan is a small village with a widely spread rural community, on the east side of the river Ken, opposite to New Galloway. Balmaclellan is one of four parishes in the northern district of the Stewartry of Kirkcudbright, commonly known as the Glenkens. Just over a mile to the North East stands Barscobe Castle which was built in 1684 by William Maclellan. The beautiful and historic church dates back to 1772 and enjoys stunning views of the surrounding countryside.
