The Aldeburgh Moot Hall was built around 1520 and was the towns meeting place for some 400 years. Then it was positioned at the centre of the picturesque town of Aldeburgh but coastal erosion now means it stands only a stones throw from the sea. It was fully restored in 1854 when chimneys copied from Hampton Court were added and again at the end of the 1980’s when accumulated soil round it was removed. Now it’s the meeting place of the Town Council and, upstairs, a small, but interesting, museum.
