Baconsthorpe Castle was built in the 15th Century as a fortified manor house, and stands as a testament to the rise and fall of the Heydon family, one of the most prominent in Norfolk for some hundreds of years. Today only ruins remain of much of the property, but there are significant parts intact that give us clues as to how the family lived. The main gatehouse is in good order and remained inhabited until 1920.
