Created after WWII, Basildon was built to accommodate the London overspill. The villages of Pitsea, Basildon, Laindon and Vange, and later Billericay and Wickford, merged to form today’s commuter town. Abundant high street shops, including one of the UK’s largest Debenhams, and a leisure park make Basildon popular with younger generations.
