One of the most historic football clubs in the area, Bishop’s Stortford F.C. moved t their new home on the edge of the town after financial difficulties forced them to sell ‘Rhodes Avenue’ in 1999. A founder member of the Hertfordshire Football league in 1874, Bishop’s Stortford was the last ever team to win the FA Amateur Cup in 1983 in front of 30,000 fans at Wembley stadium. Famous for their ‘giant killing’ efforts in the FA Cup the club famously forced the mighty Middlesborough to a replay in the third round before losing 2-1 at home in front of a record 9,000 home crowd. The team are constantly on the brink of playing league football and have a strong and loyal local support.
