This imposing ruin would have once been one of the most impressive castles and fortifications in this region. A Roman 3rd Century ‘Saxon Shore’ fort, the castle was built to defend the coast of Norfolk from raids and attacks by sea. The position of the castle ruins affords wonderful panoramic views across Breydon Water into which the fourth wall of the castle collapsed. English Heritage now maintain the property and have signposted the area with interesting historical facts.
