A well-known Ely landmark, this canon was captured from the Russians in Sebastopol. It was given to Ely by Queen Victoria in 1860 and has stood on Palace Green ever since. Palace Green itself is flanked by many historic buildings. Among them, the impressive Bishop's Palace, which dates from the 15th century and was built by Bishop Alcock. Its garden has the oldest Plane tree in England. It is over 300 years old.
