Coombe Hill was given to the National Trust in 1920, and much of the area was once part of the Chequers Estate, where Prime Ministers have enjoyed a country retreat for many years. The home to a great deal of wildlife, the unspoilt habitat attracts red kites, yellowhammers, firecrests and the extremely rare Chiltern gentian. A large monument marking the Boer War stands at the summit of the hill.
