Since 1391 there has been a pier or jetty in the seaside town of Cromer on the North Norfolk coast. In 1846 the last 70 yard long wooden jetty was built being a simple plain wooden structure but the pier in its present form was opened on June 8th, 1901. Today there are very few piers left around the coast of England and Cromer is unique in that it still provides a traditional end-of-pier show during the summer season in its Pavilion Theatre.
