The port of Felixstowe is the largest container port in the UK and is one of the largest in Europe. Equipped with 21 quayside cranes, the Terminal spans almost 1.5 miles, making it the longest continuous quay in the British Isles. This, together with Felixstowe’s deep waters, gives the Port the ability to accommodate the biggest container vessels now in operation, including the largest, Emma Maersk. The Port dates back to 1875 when “The Felixstowe Railway and Pier Company” was founded by Colonel George Tomline, a prominent local landowner.
