The unassuming frontage to the bakery in Spilsby actually has a lot behind it in terms of history. The bakery was actually the birthplace of one of Britain’s greatest explorers, John Franklin, in 1786. Franklin is most noted for his treks across the Arctic, his discovery of the North-West Passage and his journeys to Southern Australia with his cousin, Matthew Flinders in the early 1800s. The bakery sells all manner of bread, cakes and cheese, plus sausages and haggis.
