Halesworth Museum is housed in a converted railway station, which is in itself worth visiting. The station, built between 1859 and 1888, has an unusual moveable platform, which was restored in 1999. Inside, there are archeology, natural science and social history collections as well as displays celebrating the lives of past Halesworth residents. Among them, Sir William Hooker, plant hunter, botanist and first Director of Kew Gardens, and his son, Sir Joseph Hooker, who followed his father to Kew, becoming Kew’s second Director.
