Before Great Yarmouth was a famous holiday resort, it was a thriving port and Hall Plain was its commercial centre. Buildings here reflect centuries of prosperity. The finest, Barclay's Bank, is a palazzo-style building of 1854 designed by Anthony Salvin. Others include LLoyds Bank of 1598, the Duke's Head Hotel, which is early 17th Century, and the Conservative Club, from the mid 19th Century.
