This National Trust protected forest is ancient woodland and a unique example of a medieval hunting forest. The site is of exceptional ecological and historic importance to the area and the country. It is a designated area of special scientific interest due to its wide varieties of rare flora and fauna. Much of the forest is wooded, containing a huge selection of native English trees. There are several open areas and a large lake in the centre of the forest. Fishing is available on the lake and there are food, drink and toilet facilities within the forest.
