Haven Bridge is a double-bascule bridge. It opens to allow ships to pass below on the River Yare, once a frequent occurrence but rare today. A bridge was first built here in the 1400s, but the current bridge was opened by the Prince of Wales in 1930. Until 1985 it was the only way to cross the river apart from the ferry. The bridge was restored and illuminated for the Millennium.
