Splendid Norman keep built in 1140 by the famous de Veres, Earls of Oxford. Visited by Kings Henry VII, VIII and Queen Elizabeth I and besieged by King John. There is a magnificent banqueting hall, minstrel’s gallery and a fine Norman arch set in beautiful grounds with peaceful woodland and lakeside walks. Hedingham Castle is situated between Colchester and Cambridge off the A1017, close to constable country and within easy reach of London and M11. Open one week before Easter to October, 11am to 4pm Sunday to Friday.
