Holy Cross in Sarratt is one of the areas’ most picturesque churches. This beautiful 12th Century building was first constructed in or around the year 1190, and is one of only four churches in all of England with a saddleback roof. The church was built in the shape of a cross, and there have been many extensions and alterations to the original design over subsequent centuries. The bell tower itself was built in the 15th Century, and contains one window with its original glass intact. The pulpit boasts fine Jacobean carving and the wall-paintings in the south transept date from c.1370. This wonderful little church is much-loved by the local community and admired by all who visit.
