These picturesque and well-managed stables house Britain’s oldest equine charity. The Home of Rest for Horses was founded in 1886 as a retirement home for working horses, ponies and donkeys. It is home to over 100 animals from all over the country, ranging from rescued ponies to retired drum horses from the Household Cavalry. The home is open to the public on most days. Bring some carrots – they will be much appreciated by the residents! The aim of the charity is to raise awareness of the importance of responsible horse ownership. Admission is free but donations are gratefully received. The site is fully accessible to wheelchair users.
