In the 19th Century, ice was vital to Great Yarmouth. As the largest herring port in Europe, tonnes of it were needed to keep the herring fresh on its long journey to customers. Before being packed with the fish in barrels, the ice was stored here, having been brought down from the Norfolk Broads. This icehouse was originally one of a pair. It was restored in 1980 by J & H Bunn Limited.
